Power management leader Kinetic Technologies expands its portfolio with the introduction of its KTA1142 device. A single-chip, highly integrated solution designed to deliver power to any Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD). The KTA1142 simplifies system design and enhances power efficiency for telecom, networking, and security applications, delivering up to 72 Watts of output power. The KTA1142 is ideal for conference systems, 5G/LTE base stations, wireless LAN access points, security cameras, and mini personal computers.

The KTA1142 fully supports IEEE® 802.3af, IEEE® 802.3at and IEEE® 802.3bt standards and implements all physical layer PD functionalities including 5-event classification, Autoclass to communicate maximum PD power requirements to PSE, Type 1-4 PSE detection, and MPS to lower standby power.

Kinetic Technologies’ KTA1142 provides an efficient and compact solution. The device incorporates an advanced DC-DC controller with adjustable slope compensation, dual low-side gate drivers with programmable dead time, and a programmable frequency dithering. The controller can be configured as a Flyback or Active Clamp Forward Converter for PoE802.3bt applications.

Geethakrishnan Narasimhan, Director of Product Marketing, states, “With power budgets expanding up to just shy of 72W, system OEMs are integrating more features to enhance product performance and offer more choices to their customers. However, the added availability of ‘higher power’ introduces its own challenges in power conversion efficiency, thermal performance, higher EMI, system size and cost. KTA1142 addresses these challenges head-on by integrating a PoE bt-standard compliant PD Interface and DC-DC controller that delivers industry leading efficiency in excess of 92%.”
